Luck. Pretty much just luck, thats how I became an ambassador. I have always pushed myself in my photography, always wanting to learn more every time I go out. And thats how I approached video as well. I first moved to video three years ago, starting a small vlog on my Youtube channel, after watching some close friends do the same.
I have always been fairly competitive and felt I could do a better job to be honest! But my channel grew slowly, too slowly for me to really care about it, so with the first lockdown in the UK I moved out of my comfort zone and moved into short little films, learning the finer points of video as I go, SFX one video, simple VFX another, lighting the next until I realised it wasn't the vlogs I was enjoying but the video creation.
This moved me onto the type of short film vlog I now do, more 'cinematic' vlog than your usual vlog style....but what has this got to do with becoming an ambassador for Samyang?
Well I entered a competition for Samyang to win a lens, sure enough I won! I won the 35mm f1.8 AF lens, a fantastic bit of kit I use daily. But it didn't go to smoothly, there was a delay in getting the lens to me, so I got in touch with Samyang UK who helped me immensely. The delay was nothing more than a busy company working as hard as they do, and some emails lost in translation.
As part of winning I had to send some images to Samyang taken with said lens, which I was more than happy to do. I did this but also made a couple of videos with the lens, as I usually do and also sent them.
This was noticed by Samyang which I was of course happy about! I got a call from Samyang UK asking me if I could make a video for them at a bit short notice, again we were still in the middle of lockdown, and this classed as work so was happy to go out (plus it was the middle of nowhere). The video was for a virtual photography shoot for Castle Cameras, I think the guys at Samyang were happy as here we are today!
The video I made is below:-
